I am a druid, devoted priestess of Aengus mac Og, artist and mother in upstate NY, near to the borders of Vermont and Mass. Tradewise, I am a needleworker (esp.obscure techniques that are on the brink of extinction), lacemaker and artist specializing in figures painted and collaged on panels. I am pretty sure I have been pagan since day one, but I never put a name to it until my teens, when I began walking the druids path, over 20 years ago :) I have a small clergy practice that I have been active with over most of the past...10 years? Within that practice I handle spiritual counseling, handfastings and other rites of passage, herbalism and teaching, among other things as needed. My path is, for want of a better yet equally understood word, shamanic and I have had a clear focus of study on the nature of divinity, herbalism and the use of the arts as an expression of spirituality and magickal work. I am also passionate about dance and incorporate dance and movement into much of my spiritual work. I do have a great dislike and lack of patience for pagans who refuse to walk the walk yet insist on talking the talk ;). I find I have a distinct lack of patience for nonsense, argument and time wasting! I am happy to answer any question anyone might have about myself, my practice or whatever :)

I am passionate about dance(with a burning passion for ballet), gardening, cooking, the arts,romance, beauty, opera, hiking, conservation, the outdoors,insects and other creepy-crawlies, science, literature, languages, anthropology and a host of other things. I love baths - bubble or plain, writing erotica, sensuality, fragrance, cherries, Irish whiskey, pastries from Bella Napoli in Troy, things Irish, French or Danish, interesting architecture, far off places, poetry, museums,coffee, tea, chocolate, jewelry, Arts and Crafts movement design, Art Nouveau design, unique and beautiful fashion.

Noise, apathy, laziness, bad manners, processed food, know it alls, pagan apologists!!, the religious reich, thoughtlessness, injustice, assumptions, duality (black/white, either/or)... and basic stupidity. I also cannot stand people who call the Upper Hudson Valley "tech valley" litterbugs, disposable everything, GOSSIP!(hate it hate it hate it!), celebrities-as-news, snoops, spies, self-righteousness, the death of privacy, buzzwords, catchphrases, cute rhymes and alliterations, crocs and Ugg boots, stupid ugly fashion,

I'm not sure I have hobbies so much as I have lots of interests and things that I have learned with the intent of incorporating them into my art or spiritual practice. I guess I would say gardening, needlework, hiking, brewing,museums, philosophy, dance,

omgs, here is a giant can of worms :) I am a voracious reader. I am not really sure where to start here. I read tons of nature, science, anthropology, history, biography, philosophy, literary fiction, poetry, some fantasy and sci-fi and tons of how-to, needlework, design and various technical books. I always have my nose buried in something. I love beautiful picture books and children's books as well. My favorite authors: Patricia McKillip, Salman Rushdie, Rita Mae Brown, Ursula K. LeGuin, Colette, Wade Davis, Richard Evans Schultes, Umberto Eco, Clive Barker, Guy Gavriel Kay, Neil Gaiman, I am just getting into Tad Williams, Richard Grant makes me giggle, and I like David Brin too :) Alexandra Stoddard

Classical - Debussy, Satie, Bach, Beethoven, Salieri, Schubert, Strauss, Stravinsky, Prokoviev, Tchiakovsky, Bizet, Barber, Lizst...the usual suspects...;
Classic Rock - Queen!!!!, Dire Straits!!, Yes, Van Halen, AC/DC, the Kinks, Jethro Tull, Supertramp, Heart, Styx, Journey, Rush, ELO!!;
Alt - Siouxsie and the Banshees (yes, I am old!), Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Cracker, Laibach, Shelleyan Orphan, Godsmack; Country - Keith Urban, Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss and Union Station, George Strait, I love a lot of alt country - the types of bands you see on Wide Open Country; Random - John Denver!!!, Nickelback, Simon and Garfunkel, Dan Fogelberg!, Roy Orbison, Cristina Aguilera, Shawn Mullins; Guitar Gods - Brian May, Mark Knopfler,Nils Lofgren, Keith Urban,Joe Perry, Angus Young, John Williams (not my fave conductor - but amazing classical Guitarist), Charo (yes, she is a classical guitarist and phenomenal!); Orchestras - The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields!!!!, LSO, Czech Nat'l, NY Phil., Andre Rieu's Johann Strauss Orch., NYCB orchestra; Opera - the Met!!!!!! and NYC - my faves :) Samuel Ramey, Jessye Norman, Jubilant Sykes, Kathleen Battle, Denyce Graves,

Just wanted to stop by and say a huge thank you for the comments on my blog. I hope you and yours are having a wonderful week :) We are getting ready for maple syrup which is, this year, running very, very late. take care of yourselves....

Niamh

OOOo maple syrup. We gave it a try last year and got a few ounces I think we are just too far south for any real sugaring.  However at work the other morning I saw a huge maple-cicle clinging to a wound on a tree. So maybe we will give it a try this year.  I hope your harvest goes well and the pankack stack is high and covered with syrup!

Kansas needs a book on how to communicate. I haven't decided which one yet - he specifically said he needs to focus his thoughts because his mind moves and jumps really quickly and he forgets his 'points'; and, people think he's being aggressive even when he's not. He is just harsh and loud and it comes across bad. I don't know if there is a book for that - HOWEVER, he also has too many books until he can send some home when I visit him next month. If you know of any good communication books, I'd love titles.

How are you doing? I've been thinking of you...

i am so glad that you got the card and stones and all! :~D and that you liked it! i LOVE broom too! last year, i kept cutting off the beautiful blooms because the year before i had bugs all over it! so i thought that cutting of the wonderful smelling flowers would help keep the nasties away. it did help until i got lazy! lol!! and it left me with a ton of dry broom! i read somewhere that broom is associated with brighid. so since then i've been obsessed with it! lol! i'm surprised that you can't grow it out there. mine is sweet broom, but i know there's scotch broom witch is from scotland. maybe you can do that one. :~)

ooo what a great idea for the stones! i love little pouches. the agate screamed  you for some reason. it just felt right. and it was the only one shaped that way. it was special. and i couldn't resist with the heart! ;~) and you are most welcome for it all. i still have more fun for you! ha!! hope things are getting a bit better. still sending you lots of love and warmth. ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) ~*alysia
